The minimum required qualifications were determined in view of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position.

    The specific language requirements for this position are detailed hereunder. However, candidates applying for the professional category vacancies who have not already successfully completed their probationary period within the ILO and whose mother tongue is not one of the working languages of the Office (English, French and Spanish), shall be required to possess a fully satisfactory working knowledge of at least one of the ILO working languages. If appointed they may be required to acquire a knowledge of a second working language of the Office during their initial years of service.

    Introduction


    The position is situated in the Internal Communication Unit of the ILO Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM).

    DCOMM works with all ILO departments at headquarters and field offices to deliver the global communication strategy and is responsible for ensuring a common approach to ILO internal and external communication. DCOMM informs and connects ILO staff globally, promoting a common understanding of ILO objectives by producing engaging and relevant content, events and campaigns, and by managing effective communication channels.

    The role of the Internal Communication Officer is to create and produce written and visual internal communication content and activities, and to assist with the design, procurement and production of multimedia content and materials in compliance with the ILO brand identity.

    The position reports to the Head of the Internal Communication and Branding Unit.

    Specific Duties


    1. Under the guidance of the supervisor, plan, draft and post relevant and engaging internal communication information and content, in line with the institutional internal communication priorities and DCOMM strategy.

    2. Design basic multimedia materials, notably videos, including visual assets for the intranet, infographics, illustrations, short videos simple publications etc.

    3. Provide administrative and planning support and contribute to the design and conception of exhibitions and installations at ILO headquarters.

    4. Contribute communication and branding support for ILO global and special events.

    5. Assist with the design, procurement and production of promotional merchandise and products for the ILO, including liaison with external suppliers.

    6. Maintain and update guidelines and materials on the ILO Brand Hub.

    7. Provide support to staff in understanding, accessing, engaging and complying with the brand identity.

    8. Draft and edit communication and information materials as needed for the Unit and Department.

    9. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

    Generic Duties


    1. Search and develop materials for specific information topics and/or outputs such as audio/video productions. Collect and compile information for dissemination.

    2. Draft news releases, correspondence or other information publications, and assist with the distribution of information materials.

    3.Prepare briefing materials for senior communication and public information specialists prior to their appearance at interviews, conferences and briefings. Participate in the organization of seminars, conferences and meetings.

    4.Maintain lines of communication and working relationships with representatives of the media, NGOs and/or other groups to develop an understanding of information

    requirements.

    5.Edit, write or rewrite articles, newsletters or other information materials as required.

    6.Assist with the production of audio/video projects by conducting research, acquiring copyright and other clearances, and arranging for editing and audio mixing.

    Participate in the development and maintenance of websites.

    Required qualifications


    Education


    First-level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, liberal arts or other relevant field.

    Experience


    At least three years of experience in public information or related fields of work.

    Languages


    Excellent command of one working language (English, French, Spanish) of the Organization and a working knowledge of a second working language of the Organization. One of these languages must be English.

    Technical competencies:

    Ability to adapt messages to culturally diverse audiences. Knowledge of the Organization's

    mandate and its programme of activities. Good analytical skills. Proficiency in SharePoint content management or similar content management system. Excellent writing and editorial skills. Good knowledge of video, image editing and design software (Adobe).

    Behavioural competencies

    Good interpersonal and communication skills and client orientation. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.


    Conditions of employment

    • Any appointment/extension of appointment is subject to ILO Staff Regulations and other relevant internal rules. Any offer of employment with the ILO is conditional upon certification by the ILO Medical Adviser that the person concerned is medically fit to perform the specific inherent requirements of the position offered. In order to confirm an offer from the ILO the successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical examination.
    • The first contract will be issued for a twenty-four month period.
    • A successful external candidate will be on probation for the first two years of assignment.
    • Any extension of contract beyond the probation period is subject to satisfactory conduct and performance.
