Reporting to the SVP, R&D Strategic Operations, this role is responsible for working with the Strategic Operations Leadership Team to manage the integrated organization, including:

  • strategy and objective planning & execution
- delivery of key Strategic Operations initiatives and participation in R&D-wide initiative
- oversight of cross-functional operational processes
- communication and continuous learning and additional efforts to enhance the interconnectivity of our integrated and global R&D business (One CSL R&D).


Role and Responsibilities

Department Strategy and Objectives

  • Support SVP and StratOps LT in developing and implementing an integrated strategy for the Strategic Operations organization across its diverse functions
  • Collaborate with StratOps LT to support functional strategies in alignment with department and R&D strategy
  • Engage crossR&D stakeholder to assess needs and value assessment of shared services provided by Strategic Operations
  • Facilitate department goal setting and track deliverables
  • Liaise with senior leadership across R&D to collaborate and coordinate strategic efforts and interdependencies in order to successfully implement the strategic roadmap

Management of Strategic Operations Key Initiatives

  • Serve as PMO lead for ongoing and emerging functional integrations, ensuring completion and success of integration through the "last mile"
  • Collaborate with relevant leaders to actively manage change initiatives and monitor employee engagement
  • Perform formal and informal "health checks" until full "business as usual" state has been achieved
  • Develop and oversee an approach to govern and manage key nonproject initiatives
  • Scope what is an initiative and what will/will not be in scope (e.g. functionspecific work)
  • Inventory and monitor key initiatives and collaborate with Strategic Operations leadership to assess value, prioritize, identify representatives, resource & budget impact, timing, deliverables, etc.
  • Serve as hub for requests to involve Strategic Operations team members on initiatives and ensure needs and constraints are communicated regarding those initiated outside the department
  • Serve as PMO lead for complex and crossorganizational priority initiatives and improvement programs
  • In collaboration with SVP, identify, evaluate and lead continual improvement across the organization to enhance organizational effectiveness and in alignment with overall R&D strategies

Cross-functional operational processes

  • Implement best practice business initiatives to enhance execution and streamline business operations processes
  • Lead or support continuous integration and improvement efforts to enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Collaborate on tools and planning process across StratOps as needed, to help ensure effective and datadriven decisionmaking
  • Support design and development of team building, training, and other teamwide initiatives that improve processes, quality, and relationships.

Communication and Continuous Learning

  • Develop and/or lead culture initiatives to ensure connectivity across StratOps and alignment with One R&D
  • Promote a learning organization through managing After Action Review capabilities for StratOps and coordinating requests, facilitator training and resourcing across R&D
  • Coordinate communication across Strategic Operations to promote awareness, knowledgesharing, consistency, and learning.
  • In collaboration with Integrated Business Operations and Corporate Communication, develop a communication strategy within and about Strategic Operations that supports the connected vision and each functions needs to nurture a culture of openness, transparency and continuous learning
  • Provide leadership support with streamlining internal communications pathways
  • Maintain content on relevant internal platforms and external websites as appropriate

Additional responsibilities

  • As needed, act on decisions made by the StratOps LT where there is no clear business owner
  • Support crossR&D initiatives, integrations or other business imperatives upon request

Educational Background and experiences

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Science, Finance, Business, or a relevant field.
  • An advanced degree Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent an advantage
  • 8+ years' experience working in a R&D leadership role in areas such as Strategy, Business Management, and Project Management within pharma or biotech environment is required.
  • Proven leadership experience and success with building & developing matrix global teams
  • Ability to lead interactions with multiple stakeholder groups and interfaces for example with Therapeutic Area leaders, R&D functions and Finance, across the enterprise
  • Manage a shared service within or across multiple departments for a global R&D business, ideally in corporate or strategic planning
  • Experience as an integrator across multiple organizations, geographie
