Drinbardha Elshani

I'm Drinbardha, a Masters student from the University of Fribourg in Experimental Biomedical Research and a researcher at the PopHealthLab, Fribourg. In being involved in multiple PopHealthLab studies, specifically in  data management and analysis, this opportunity has allowed me to bridge my interests in biomedicine and public health. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, I have studied data communication and visualisation and the Sciences, fostering a wide breadth and depth understanding of the relationship between the two. I am passionate about communicating the sciences to the general public in ways that are effective, creative and accessible but also passionate about keeping updated on the current, modern research in Biomedicine.

I have worked as a medical assistant for a general physician for the past five years, gaining comprehensive experience in patient care, administrative duties, and clinical support. My responsibilities included Conducting patient intake, recording vital signs, and preparing patients for examination, managing patient records and appointments, handling billing and insurance documentation, performing basic lab tests and providing patient education on health management, treatment plans and preventative care. Throughout my duration, I developed strong communication and organizational skills, ensuring efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. My experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of medical protocols, patient interaction, and the dynamics of a healthcare team.

I completed my Honors Bachelor degree in Science from the University of Toronto and am currently finishing my Masters in Experimental Biomedical Research. My Masters thesis was conducted in the epidemiology department (PopHealthLab) where I acquired the skills to manage and analyse data from a biobank of over half a million participants, work with multidisciplinary colleagues to learn new research and communication skills, and perform in-depth literature research.
