The internship is located in the Trade Facilitation Section of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division, at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe based in Geneva.


Responsibilities:

The intern is expected to contribute to the work of the secretariat to the UN Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business as follows:

Under the supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer:
a) Assists in the UN/LOCODE project to re-engineer the front-end system.
b) Provides technical support in UN/CEFACT standards generation and publication.
c) Undertakes testing.
d) Assists in the cyber security audit and analysis of the audit report and provide advice.
e) Prepares, updates, and maintains system's documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
f) Assists in designing eLearning courses, conducts training sessions and demonstrations of systems for users.
g) Participates in assessing and testing new technology.
h) Provides liaison assistance with other international organizations
i) Performs other related duties as required.

Education
For this internship, studies in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related fields is required.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French or Russian is desirable.
