Beschreibung

The Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) of the University of Bern consists of 13 re-search programs with more than 100 research groups.

Research at the DBMR encompasses vir-tually all biomedical areas and allows and facilitates extensive interaction and collaboration be-tween groups or programs, and between research labs and clinics.

A hallmark of the DBMR is the existence of technical platform facilities or core facilities that are accessible to all researchers and offer state of the art instruments, services and support.

As of September 1st, 2023 or upon agreement the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting (FCCS) core facility of the DBMR is looking for a motivated person with strong scientific background and pertinent knowledge in flow cytometry to strengthen the small team of this exciting and scientifi-cally eclectic core facility.

In this position you are responsible, together with the head of the FCCS core facility, for the scien-tific support for our users, including setup and optimization of protocols and methods (e.g., anti-body panel design and fluorophore selection) as well as high-dimensional data analyses.

(Ex-pected up to 20-30% once users spread the word about this service.)

You will be trained to operate cell sorters in order to conduct cell sorting for our users and assist them in performing cell sorting experiments.

(Flexible, depending on requests and availability of other staff members.)

You will be responsible for QC and user support for one of our user-operated flow cytometers. (ca. 10%)

With your knowledge and expertise, you will take over a substantial part of our recurrent and mod-ular FACS course which yields 2 ECTS points for members of the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences, GCB %)

Tasks

  • Flow cytometryspecific scientific, methodological and technical support or FCCS core facility users, including highdimensional data analyses.
  • Operation of (spectral) flow cytometers including cell sorters.
  • Organizing recurrent modular FACS courses and teaching/coaching selected modules therein.
  • Participation at seminars and meetings for further education and presentations for FCCS core facility representation.

We are seeking a highly motivated person, eager to learn and with teamwork and communication skills as well as a flair for networking and socializing in the scientific community.

Requirements:

  • Master or PhD in natural sciences or laboratory technician with a strong biomedical scientific background and corresponding experience.
  • Experience with flow cytometry.
  • Good laboratory, scientific and social (customer care) conduct.
  • Good command of English (B2 or higher).
  • Interest and experience in bioinformatics is a plus.
We offer

  • Diversified tasks with high responsibilities and competences.
  • Insight into countless scientific projects and possibility for scientific collaborations.
  • Demanding and stimulating work with exciting state of the art technologies and equipment.
  • Chance to improve teaching skills.
  • Further education (meetings, congresses, seminars).
  • University of Bern as an attractive employer (location, courses, activities, sports).
