The Innovation Office is leading the University of Basel's activities and initiatives in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation as part of the University Presidency.


To fulfill the vision of the Innovation Office, "propelling innovators to achieve impact", we support start-up ventures on their journey by equipping innovators with skills, the right mindset & a network to succeed; co-create and drive innovation collaborations together with industry partners that tackle complex challenges; focus on international collaboration and impact, in Europe and worldwide.

The position is limited to two years with the option for extension.


Your position


Efficiently establish valuable links between scientists and the industry ecosystem across local, regional, and international levels, facilitating quicker initiation of start-up projects and productive industry-academia collaborations.

Your work will bolster the Biocampus initiative, focused on elevating start-up endeavors and innovation on a trinational (Switzerland, France, and Germany) scale.


Your tasks will include:
- growing and managing the innovation pipeline of the University of Basel, from invention to patent to valorization. This involves scouting for innovative ideas and innovators, with special consideration for start-ups as a vehicle for transfer;
- identifying needs from the life sciences industry and building partnerships to catalyse innovative projects, with a strong focus on the trinational region;
- assessing market gaps and opportunities and defining the value roadmap to initiate collaborative projects with partners, including fundraising;
- elevating the global presence of the Innovation Office and Biocampus through networking and digital communication.


Your profile
- formal university qualification (at least Masters level) in any academic field & minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience;
- understanding of technology and knowledge transfer mechanisms (invention, patenting, valorization);
- experience in attracting funding, then manage stakeholders in complex setups for successful delivery;
- strong reporting, writing & presentation skills, as well as a hands on mentality;
- experience in working with start-ups, in a start-up, and/or with the life sciences or high-tech industry is advantageous;
- fluent in spoken and written English and German;
- openness to travel regularly in the Upper Rhine Valley and occasionally beyond;
