Metrics and Data Lead, Global Communications Group

The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation.

The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.


The Global Communications Group is the central Forum team dedicated to communications with the public, media, stakeholders and staff in relation to the Forum's mission.

Through multiple channels, the Group is responsible for communicating the work of the Forum and its constituents, reaching, growing, engaging and inspiring diverse and interested audiences.

Why we are recruiting

The Group is expanding and consolidating its strategy.

It is composed of four key functions:
Communication Strategy and Coordination, Public Engagement, Media Engagement, and Stakeholder and Staff Engagement.

It is searching for a Data Lead within the Communication Strategy and Coordination unit to contribute to the design and delivery of a data-driven strategy to measure and enhance the Forum's communications impact.

Reporting Lines & Interactions

The role will report to the Head of Metrics, Communication Strategy and Coordination.

Internally, it will liaise with key counterparts across the Global Communications Group and across the organization, particularly the Forum's Technology teams.

Externally, it might liaise with a broad range of stakeholders on an-hoc basis, including external consultancies and/or insights and technology providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop data pipelines between tools tracking communication metrics and analytic dashboards, developing automation as necessary to enable the team to collect and analyse data.
  • Manage the setup of measurement tools which support the tracking of communication metrics, liaising with providers and consultants as necessary.
  • Support the buildout of documentation for the new metrics system, working with the Head of Metrics on the implementation and evolution of the metrics strategy.
  • After initial setup of a new measurement system, run selected experiments and tests to gather additional insight for the ongoing strategic development of the team especially in the domain of audience listening and segmentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including leading data, insights, and technology providers and consultants
  • Identify and remain at the forefront of the latest market research, data, analytics, and communication trends.
  • Maintain an awareness and understanding of emerging trends relating to the topics covered by the Forum's work.
  • Act as a key member of the Global Communications Group team, develop trusted internal relationships across the team and the organization.
  • Drafting effective protocols for media asset tagging.
  • Updating the setup of measurement and tracking tools in line with the new metrics strategy, and after that setup effectively maintaining the systems to deliver timely and accurate reporting.
  • Supporting the overall implementation of a metrics strategy and contributing to its ongoing development through thoughtful suggestions for innovation within the technical components of reporting.
  • Ability to collaborate efficiently and transparently within the team and across the organization as a strong team player.
  • Strong understanding of the Forum's mission and impact.
  • Keeping abreast of relevant issues, developments, initiatives, and stakeholders pertinent to the Forum's mission and impactrelated work; Ongoing learning of the media landscape: offline and online, across social and traditional media.
  • Effectively represent the Forum internally and externally where applicable, in interactions with media and external constituents, as well as at institutional events.

Required qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in market research, analytics, or data science
  • Proficiency in at least one computing language such as R, Python, PHP, and Javascript and the ambition to take on new learning as necessary.
  • Experience in tools and services such as Airtable, Google Analytics, Brandwatch, Cision, Conviva, AWS, and Tableau.
  • Strong mission orientation and a focus on supporting a publicgoods agenda
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Robust interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong, constructive relationships internally and with providers.
