R&D Unit Lead Traction Switzerland

The R&D Unit Lead has the responsibility for the research and development organization of the Traction Division in Switzerland. The unit consists of over 100 engineers organized in eleven teams. The R&D Unit in Switzerland has full responsibility for the development and maintenance of the propulsion converter platform, the traction battery platform, and the converters for mobile e-power applications, and it supports the development of the standalone auxiliary converter platforms.The R&D Unit Lead is responsible to develop and maintain the competence, infrastructure, and tools required to deliver the product development roadmap in time, cost, and with the required quality. He or she guides and coaches a team of eleven Team Leaders and manages the budgets and running cost of the R&D Unit. Reporting to the Global Head of R&D in this role you will utilize your technical expertise and leadership skills to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the R&D Unit.

Your responsibilities

• Be the leader and entrepreneur of the local Traction R&D unit in Turgi, Switzerland.
• Teach, coach, and mentor your R&D unit team leaders and members to enable them taking responsibility for their people, project portfolios, and platforms.
• Build and maintain a culture of innovation, customer focus, and informed risk-taking.
• Plan the project portfolio and budgets in collaboration with the Global Head of R&D and supervise the project execution and cost management.
• Hire and develop talents in collaboration with your team leaders and ensure alignment across the local division on all topics related to people management.
• Enable efficient R&D operation through the development of processes and active maintenance of the interfaces to product management, engineering, operations, and service.
• Ensure an environment where people work with integrity and return home safely thanks to high standards on health and safety.
• Inspire the organization with your enthusiasm for our products and technology.

Your background

• Sound knowledge of technology and product development techniques, processes, and tools in an industrial environment, preferably in the field of power electronics.
• Demonstrated people leadership capabilities in a complex environment, with a collaborative, solution-focused approach, and empathy.
• A high level of self-motivation and curiosity, and a desire to learn about new technologies and tools.
• Bachelor or Masters degree in an engineering discipline with several years of leadership experience.
• Endurance and assertiveness to handle demanding requirements and complex interfaces.
• Strong written and spoken communications skills to solve complex challenges (organizational and technical)
• English and German communication skills to motivate your department and synchronize with the partner organizations.
