Your responsibilities

You will be part of:

  • The Beams department, responsible for the beam generation, acceleration, diagnostics, controls and performance optimization for the LHC and its injector accelerators.
  • The Operations Group, which is responsible for responsible for the operation of all CERN present and future Accelerators, their associated Experimental Areas and for the monitoring of the overall technical infrastructure at CERN.
  • The LHC team taking care of CERNs most famous accelerator.


You will work on the magnetic model of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), in particular on the dynamic field effects which have a large impact on beam parameters at injection and during the ramp.

With the data collected during run 3, you will improved the model. In parallel, you will check and revise the model for the chromaticity. Following this, you will also be responsible for implementation and operational follow up.


Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience with the analysis of large data sets;
  • Programming skills in python and/or Java;
  • Knowledge of accelerator physics would be an asset;
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Physics or electrical engineering (or a related field) and have either:

  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a
PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
