The primary purpose of the position is to manage the VAT affairs of Catalent Pharma Solutions GmbH and Catalent Cosmetics AG.

In time the role would take the lead for direct tax compliance (outsource model), quarterly tax reporting (external advisers engaged) and day to day transfer pricing compliance (external advisers engaged).

They will ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and Catalent policies and procedures, provide VAT advice to the business, improve tax compliance processes, reconciliation and manage entity tax disputes.


This position involves frequent contact with the Finance Managers, Supply Chain leaders, Legal and other members of the Cham site staff.

Contact with other Catalent operational affiliates and Catalent corporate departments will be required of the post-holder.


The Role

  • VAT compliance:_
  • Working with business stakeholders to prepare and file accurate VAT returns for the Swiss entities: covering Swiss, Italian, German, Belgian and French VAT returns, EC Sales Listings and Intrastat reports as required.
  • Manage the VAT refund process in some of the above jurisdictions to ensure timely receipt of cash.
  • Day to day management of all tax audits and disputes in the region. Identify risk areas and proactively manage the issues to mitigate issues identified.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvements in the entities tax compliance process, systems and reporting.
  • Ensure all tax compliance obligations for the companies are lodged, and paid, on time and in compliance with local requirements. Coordinate finance staff and/or external service providers to achieve this as necessary.
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes for the relevant territories, understand, manage and communicate the impact of changes to interested stakeholders. Proactively manage any changes required as a result of legislative changes.
  • Implement and monitor effective tax risk management strategies.
  • Manage the in country relationship with Revenue authorities and external advisors for the business.
  • Recommend VAT planning opportunities to Swiss Finance Director and International Tax Director as appropriate in line with local regulations.
  • Ensure compliance to Catalent Policies on Indirect taxes and that they are appropriately accounted for and reconciled in the accounting system.
  • Provide clear Indirect tax advice in the development of new contracts and transactions impact the business to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Provide appropriate VAT training to relevant employees as necessary.
  • In time manage the Direct tax compliance (outsource model), quarterly tax reporting (external advisers engaged) and day to day transfer pricing compliance (external advisers engaged) for the Swiss entities.

Support the Swiss entities in topics related to Income Tax and Transfer Pricing, interacting with the different tax advisors and Corporate Tax Team.


  • Reporting:_
Deliver specific reports to update the status on tax matters.

  • Relevant accountancy or tax qualification
  • Strong knowledge of Swiss and EU VAT, EC Sales and Intrastats
- >5 years of relevant professional experience in the tax department of another Manufacturer MNE or international accounting practice (Big 4 background advantageous though not essential).

  • Experience in cross border international VAT
  • Experience in tax compliance controls and governance.
  • Experience in dealing with Indirect tax issues for multiple countries
  • Demonstrable ability to prioritise and ensure accurate and timely delivery of work
  • Experience of using ERPs
  • An accurate, methodical, timely and professional approach to work is necessary
  • Good communication level both oral and written
  • Manage legal requirements
  • It is essential to be able to organise and prioritise work in order to meet timetables and deadlines
  • Business acumen to support business decision from a tax perspective
  • Fluent in English, any other European language is an asset
