    Blast / Bench Assistant

    At MRM, we're hiring a Blast / bench Assistant to join our team and support the ongoing development of our Mining Production department. This position reports directly to the Supervisor - Drill and Blast and is a fly in, fly out role from Darwin on 14 days on, 14 days off roster and is a fantastic opportunity for work-life balance.

    Key responsibilities include:

    The Preparation and Set-up of a blast area which includes.

      • Demarcate the blast loading area by ensuring adequate barriers and/or bunting is correctly erected.
      • Set up of signs, and flashing lights where appropriate.
      • Dipping of holes and recording (where required) on drill/blast plan.
      • Temperature testing of blast holes in accordance with current temperature testing procedure
      • Identify holes that require re-drilling, are damaged or contain water.
      • Backfill holes where necessary.
      • Responsible for the performance of pre-start checks, hazard identification and PRAs (Personal Risk Assessment)
    Blast loading activities which include.
      • Priming blast holes
      • Loading explosives into blast holes
      • Checking of product column rise to design.
      • Stemming of blast holes
      • Clean-up of blast area
      • Tie in of blast pattern to Design.
      • Responsible for the timely communication of accurate information to Supervisor and engineers as appropriate.
    Required qualifications and experience:
    • Significant knowledge of all legislation, regulations and procedures regarding the handling, transport, storage, and use of explosives, particularly as it relates to a mine site.
    • Knowledge of and experience working on a mine site
    • Significant experience in the handling, transport, storage, and use of explosives, particularly as it relates to a mine site.
    • A current Police Clearence as will be working with Explosives.

    Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a long future. You'll find our mine in the Gulf of Carpentaria 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola. We produce and process zinc, lead and silver from our open cut mine. It is then stored and transported to our Bing Bong loading facility and shipped to our customers worldwide. Our customers use our essential commodities in everyday products for mobility, infrastructure and communications.
