Deputy Head of Banking Department:


Purpose of the job:


The Deputy operates in a close team relationship with the Head of Banking, acting as replacement in their absence, and participates in the formulation of strategy and the management of the Bank as a member of the Finance Committee.

They contribute to the strategic planning and management of the BIS in close association with the members of the Executive Committee.


Principal accountabilities:

Assist and deputise for the Head of Banking Department in exercising their responsibilities for the following activities:

  • all the dealing and support operations involved in the management of the Bank's assets and liabilities;
- managing and leading the department's staff (approx in Basel, Hong Kong and Mexico City;
- providing financial services to the central bank and supranational customer base of the BIS by designing and offering attractive investment instruments;
- supervising the placing of the proceeds from these investments with high credit quality institutions;
- supervising the management of the Bank's own capital and its third-party portfolio management activity;
- overseeing the implementation of the Banking Department's medium-term strategy, which includes diversifying the investment strategy, and extending the range of banking products and services;
- overseeing the transformation of the IT environment supporting the delivery of Banking services;
Taking direct responsibility for leading and running one of the core business areas of the Banking Department.


Qualification:


  • MA/MSc in Economics, Finance or equivalent.

Skills:


  • Clear record of achievement in international banking with experience in prudent treasury, asset/liability management and/or portfolio management.
  • Good understanding of the characteristics and requirements of central banks and supranational institutions as customers.
  • Analytical, managerial and leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent English drafting skills.

Work experience:


  • Between 10 to 15 years of experience in a senior position in a financial institution.
