Business Development Manager

The complexity of clinical research has been growing steadily.

The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) provides the central organization for expertise, innovation, leadership, contemporary pedagogy, and centralized facilities for supporting clinical researchers.

We work across multiple collaborations at the Faculty of Medicine and the Inselspital.
DCR is the academic center for knowledge transfer and services related to clinical research. It offers clinical researchers full support from study design to study conduct.

The DCR structure consists of three units:
CTU Bern, Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU) and the Medical Data Science Unit.

Duties and responsibilities

  • In your role as Business Development Manager, you will provide support to enable the DCR Director to achieve the mission of the DCR.
  • You will be responsible for: the growth of business of the DCR with internal and external stakeholders; diversification of business areas, promotion of economic independence and viability through the development of a business model for DCR interactions with collaborators; the enhancement of DCR's visibility and reputation; the strategic development of the institution's longterm objectives.
  • You will initiate and expedite contact with internal and external stakeholders, collaborators, and potential partners of DCR and enhance cooperation with existing collaborators.
Qualifications and skills

  • Tertiary higher degree in a relevant discipline of medicine or allied health
  • Fluency in English (written & spoken) required.
  • Fluency in German and/or French desired.
  • Successful track record of business development in life science (medtech, medicine, healthcare, biotech, and/or pharmaceutical)
  • Significant experience in developing and managing budgets and all aspects of financial accountability.
  • Extensive experience in the health and medical research and/or healthcare sectors with a demonstrated understanding of: systemlevel opportunities and barriers for optimal integration of research, education/training and clinical care; mechanisms that govern health and medical research, professional development of healthcare professionals, clinical trials and the use of clinical and health data for research
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • A high level of initiative, creativity, and strategic thinking with the ability to solve problems innovatively.
  • High level skills in evidence synthesis and critical analysis and interpretation of evidence and data
  • A high level of maturity, discretion and diplomacy and the ability to exercise sound judgment with sensitivity.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing, proficiency in business writing and in meeting facilitation.
The position is located at sitem-insel on Campus of the University Hospital of Bern (Inselspital).
