***The department of neurology of Inselspital, Bern diagnoses and treats people with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. The Medical Division Neurology is one of the three most important strategic research areas of the Insel Group Bern and it is the largest neurological clinic in Switzerland.

Within the department of neurology, the interdisciplinary "Sleep-Wake-Epilepsy Center" (SWEC) offers the entire spectrum of modern diagnostics and therapy for patients with sleep-wake disorders and epilepsy.

Your Challenge

The Department of Neurology of Inselspital, Bern is currently creating a reference data platform for the integration of multimodal clinical patient data.

Within a large digitalization project, the SWEZ is one of three core contributing specialty clinics.

For over 20 years, clinical and physiological data have been collected from patients with sleep disorders, including raw data and results from polysomnography, actigraphy and vigilance tests.

In collaboration with the Institute of Computer Science, University of Bern, we have recently started to exploit these data with machine-learning algorithms.

Your Profile

PhD in the field of biomedical engineering, Neuroscience or similar
Profound skills in R und Python programming, independent in writing robust code
Expertise in deep learning, or machine learning, ideally focused on biomedical time series data (EEG, ECG, PSG)
Curiosity to dive into highly multimodal data from clinical routine
Analytical and critical thinking

Our Offer

You will have the unique opportunity to interact with a highly interdisciplinary team of medical doctors and scientists in the sleep research group of Prof. Bassetti, dean of the medical faculty of the University Bern.
With respect to stateofthe art electrophysiological data processing and analysis, you will be mentored by the research group of Prof. Tzovara, Cognitive Computational Neuroscience, University of Bern.
Your work will further be inspired by interacting with engineers and postdocs from the other speciality clinics in the framework of the Neurology reference data platform
