This Position is located in the Office of The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria (OSE-Syria). This position is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent will report to the Chief of Staff under the overall guidance of the Deputy Special Envoy.


Responsibilities:


  • Keeps abreast of key developments related to the mission's work, undertakes research and prepares draft briefings, meeting notes, code cables, correspondence, and other documents on a range of topics.
  • Coordinates the preparation and processing of briefing materials for the Deputy Special Envoy's meetings and official mission files, ensuring that materials from mission components are submitted and processed in a timely manner and are of high quality.
  • Brings to the attention of the Deputy Special Envoy matters requiring the Deputy Special Envoy's attention, makes recommendations on how those matters might be handled, and ensures appropriate followup as directed.
  • Assists with preparations for mission travel, in coordination with the relevant colleagues and external interlocutors. Ensures the finalization and processing of the Deputy Special Envoy's mission reports and dissemination of information to the relevant colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Provides substantive and operational support to the Deputy Special Envoy's work with the Women's Advisory Board (WAB) and the Civil Society Support Room (CSSR).
  • Assists in planning and organizing conferences, meetings, and workshops as directed.
  • Liaises and maintains collegial and close working relationship with all mission components and consult regularly with colleagues on matters of mutual interest.
  • Reviews and process incoming and outgoing correspondence, including communications
prepared for signature by the Deputy Special Envoy.

  • Provides support in preparing and finalizing the mission's work plan, monitoring and
reporting, as well as budgetary processes.

  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable datadriven planning, decisionmaking, presentation and reporting.
  • Assists in recruitment processes, as directed.
  • Performs other duties and tasks, as assigned.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZING:

Education

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, social science, economics, law, public administration, or a related field.

A first-level university degree in combination with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution, or related area is required.

Experience in political outreach, facilitation, advice and reporting is required.

Experience providing substantive and operational support for complex multi-stakeholder
processes is required.

Experience in cross-cutting analysis and coordination including on political, humanitarian, and human rights issues is required.

A minimum of two years' experience working in a United Nations peacekeeping operation or special political mission is required.

Experience working as a Special Assistant (or similar) to senior official in the United Nations is required.

Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
