Starting date:
Duration of contract: 1 year, renewable contract for 2 x 2 years, with a maximum duration of 5 years.

Employment rate: 100%

Annual salary:
CHF 67'165. (increasing each year)


Your responsibilities:


50% of working time will be spent on the preparation of a doctoral thesis using data provided by the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences (FORS) and the thesis supervisors from methodological research investigating willingness to participate in app-based data collection in surveys, particularly in the context of time use research.

The aims are to investigate methodological challenges in implementing digital data collection in surveys, focusing especially on understanding barriers to participation and investigating ways to address them.

The creativity and original ideas of the doctoral student will be very welcome.

30% of working time will be spent assisting with teaching (seminars on research methodology) under the supervision of a senior academic,

20% of working time will be dedicated to collective research projects conducted in the context of the collaborative research platform DRe

Your qualifications:


  • Master's degree in social sciences (survey Methodology, sociology, political science, social psychology, demography or similar)L;
  • Knowledge of and interest in survey methodology, with a particular focus on innovations in data collection methods;
  • Excellent skills in statistics for social sciences and handling quantitative data;
  • Practical ability to analyze quantitative data with a statistical software (e.g. R, Stata, SPSS);
  • Knowledge of English and French (teaching activities are normally carried out in French; research activities in English);
  • Excellent writing, organizational and presentation skills;
  • Desirable: experience of working in survey research.
