Lab technician

50 - 70%:

A part-time lab technician position (50-70%) in Biochemistry is available in the group of Evangelos Karousis at the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Bern.

The project aims to understand the interplay between viral proteins and mRNA translation.

We use a wide range of cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry, and we collaborate in the frame of the MCID Bern project.

Your role

Assistance and support of biochemistry and molecular biology research projects by conducting experiments (protein expression and purification, mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning)
General organizational lab tasks (preparation of standard buffers and media)

Profile:

Biology Laboratory Technician with a background in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or similar disciplines
Currently valid working permit in Switzerland is an absolute prerequisite
Experience in bacterial protein expression and purification, mammalian cell culture and cloning
Practical experience in molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, western blot)
Highly organized and detailoriented with a clean working attitude
Good computer skills and independence in conducting and troubleshooting tasks
Highly motivated, eager to acquire new skills, and can work independently in a team environment
Good communication skills in oral and written English are essential
