A postdoctoral position in cardiac electrophysiology is immediately available for 2 years (prolongation based on performance) at the Department of Physiology of the University of Bern.

We pursue a deeper understanding of fundamental mechanisms underlying action potential propagation and address the question how unstable action potential dynamics are involved in cardiac arrhythmias.

Our interdisciplinary approach involves experiments (cardiac cell cultures grown on microelectrode arrays, patch clamp experiments, optical mapping) and mathematical modeling (computer simulations of the action potential).

Specific projects will focus on new approaches to assess the stability of cardiac conduction (action potential propagation) and the mechanisms of alternans (the alternation of action potential duration from beat to beat).

Tasks

Prepare murine cardiac cell cultures
Conduct electrophysiological experiments with these cultures as well as with isolated cardiac myocytes
Analyze the results with advanced custom algorithms
Collaborate on the modeling aspects of the research projects
