Institutional Communities and the International Business Council


The institutional communities of the Forum are comprised of global business leaders who aspire to be vanguards in bringing value to all their stakeholders.

The communities convene influential CEOs and Chairpersons, represented respectively in the International Business Council (IBC) and Community of Chairpersons (CoC).

Leaders in these communities have an unparalleled opportunity to catalyse systems change, by being early-movers, signalling ambitious goals and commitments to the global business civil-society and political community, while acting as vanguard businesses that drive for long-term value creation.


The International Business Council was created in 2001, in response to a request from chief executive officers from all industries and regions for a cross-industry, cross-regional group for in-depth peer exchange on global issues.

Since then, the IBC has become a globally relevant community that acts as the anchor group and voice for stakeholder responsibility and demonstrates engagement, action and global citizenship through its individual and collective actions.

One of the Community's current projects is the Transforming Energy Demand Initiative, which works on the opportunity to accelerate the transition to an energy system that balances sustainability, security and just transition.

Breakdown of main responsibilities- 80% of the role- Responsible for co-development of strategy of next phase of the initiative together with the Head of Institutional Communities; translate strategy into project plan together with external project team Lead, manage, and own the execution of the project and the project plan, offering direction as relevant and managing key staff and relationships Manage - 4 experienced staff internal and external staff

  • Engage over 120 companies of the International Business Council to contribute to the effort and scale it
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships in key businesses, key public figures offices, key international organizations and other stakeholders relevant for effecting systems change
  • Develop public engagement strategy, narrative and relevant materials needed to disseminate initiative findings
  • Collaborate and align closely with senior counterparts from other Forum teams
  • Connect the dots and align project outcomes/recommendations across Forum centers and initiatives that touch on similar themes
  • Responsible for delivery of events relating to the initiative 20% of the role
  • Support the Institutional Communities team in the yearround events and meeting agenda, and topic curation as relevantReporting Lines & Interactions
The Lead reports to the Head of Institutional Communities.- Successful design and delivery of a coherent strategy and execution of key deliverables, milestones of the project, and key events- Performance against targets in terms of numbers and relevance of organizations actively engaged in the initiative- Ability to generate and disseminate new insights to position the Forum at the forefront of the transformation on the issue- Seamless collaboration across Forum's initiatives and centers, strong ability to "connect the dots"- Impact achieved by the overall initiative community, and impact of collective efforts incubated, launched and brought to scale within the framework of the initiative and across the Forum's relevant platforms- Feedback from constituents on the match of engagement and activities of the IBC / partner community to their specific needs

Preferred Requirements and Experience- 10+ years of professional experience in the private sector with expertise in the energy and/or advanced materials sector(s)- Strong academic background, including a Master's degree- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders in private sector into supporting a collective cause and collaborating together- Proven track record in conceptualizing, building and leading multi-organization collaborations that deliver impact Proven agility, with a strong orientation for delivering results while embracing change- Ability to build strong internal relationships and networks within complex organizations and multi-cultural environments- Excellent network-building skills with a passion for cultivating external relationships- Outstanding communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English- Comfortable with occasional global travel and proficient in using CRM tools
