Beschreibung

The post is located in the Engineering Unit, Facilities Management Section, Central Support Services, Division of Administration at the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The incumbent will report to the Chief, Facilities Management Section.


Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Supervises the activities of technical and maintenance sub-units, i.e. electricians, mechanics, control center (building management systems), and building repairs, it supports the maintenance of equipment related to audio-visual services to conferences.
  • Analyses and advises on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of major systems and facilities, i.e the Palais des Nations and its annex buildings.
  • Evaluates, reviews and revises project documents, analyses design specifications included in project proposals for accuracy, soundness, feasibility and cost. Evaluates worksites to determine necessary maintenance work.
  • Recommends solutions to unusual engineering problems.
  • Conducts technical studies on engineering topics, developing guidelines for the general planning and maintenance programs and facilities. Carries out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues.
  • Supervises preparation of statement of works, evaluation of technical bids and proposals and recommendations for the selection of suppliers.
  • Supervises the management of numerous maintenance contracts for all technical installations.
  • Oversees electrical and hydraulic systems of buildings to ensure functionality.
  • Proposes a proactive strategy involving regular and routine asset maintenance by putting in place a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to prolong Lifespan of Equipment and Machinery, to optimise the energy performance and to keep a record of the upkeep of the assets, particularly in the context or the Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP).
  • Carries out studies related to the outsourcing of services.
  • Proposes budget estimates for major maintenance programs and regular maintenance.
  • Acts as Certifying Officer for the Unit.
  • Keeps abreast, through relevant engineering literature, of significant trends and the development of improved methods and equipment.
  • Leads efforts of team studying critical problems relating to design or construction of systems and facilities. Makes recommendations for resolution of problems in specialized areas.
  • Assists the Section Chief in the coordination of the operations of the Facilities Management Section.
  • Liaises and coordinates with Projects and Space Management teams, and any ongoing works as the Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP) on all technical aspects including: Contributing as required to collect the necessary data to operate newly renovated, replaced equipment and ensuing collaboration between Engineering Unit (EU) and SHP teams; Coordinating with the project teams to secure proper resources within EU to support the SHP project.
  • Oversees equipment data and services delivery in Umoja.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in engineering or other related field is required.

A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance, engineering or related area is required.

Experience in managing construction and renovation projects of large office facilities is required.

Experience with SAP and/or UMOJA as it relates to services delivery and plant maintenance is required.
