Job Description:

Introduction

Are you willing to become a key player in power converters field? Join CERN's Electrical Power Converter Group (EPC) and leave your mark on the development/operation of the electrical systems for CERN's particle accelerators.

Take part

You will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators.

The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.

The Electrical Power Converter Group (EPC) in the Systems Department (SY) is responsible for the electrical power systems for the entire CERN accelerator complex.

You will join the Low Power Converter Section (SY-EPC-LPC), responsible for almost all converters used in the famous LHC machine, in the range of 1 kW to 50 kW.

You will participate in the design of future converters for the HL-LHC machine and being involved in delivering complete powering systems to small CERN physics experiences over CERN complex.

Functions

As Technician specialised in electronics engineering or power electronics, you will be a member of the team responsible for the design, development, production, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of CERN's power converters.

You will:

  • Take part in the design and modelling of low to medium power range, high switching frequency power converters;
  • Construct, test and install power converters;
  • Participate in the elaboration of dedicated powering solutions with final users;
  • Participate in the commissioning of power converters;
  • Organise and direct the operation and maintenance of these systems;
  • Participate in faultfinding and corrective interventions.
