Junior Postdoctoral researcher

Genetic and epigenetic regulation of heart development and regeneration

100%:

The group of Nadia Mercader studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of heart development and regeneration.

Using the zebrafish model and combining genetic manipulations with omic approaches, we investigate how cardiomyocyte proliferation is influenced by different cell types including fibroblasts and macrophages and how cardiac precursor cells acquire cell fate identity during development.

We are also interested in studying the mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance caused by cardiac injury across generations.

The group is located at the Institute of Anatomy, within the Medical faculty of the University of Bern.

It is also embedded into the Cardiovascular Research Cluster that includes several groups working at the University of Bern and University Hospital Inselspital.

The Mercader group also has an affiliation to the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares CNIC.
