A PhD position is available at the Institute of Geography of the University of Bern in the Unit Economic Geography.


The work of the
Unit Economic Geography focuses on research in the areas of regional development and sustainability, entrepreneurship and (social) innovation, structural changes in urban as well as rural and mountainous regions, diverse economies and postgrowth.

The position

The salary is according to guidelines of the University of Bern

Tasks

  • Writing a PhD thesis based on empirical research and preparation of publications
  • Development of a personal doctoral project, planning and implementation of the empirical research (mainly qualitative)
  • Participation in national and international conferences
  • Support of the group's research, teaching, and administrative activities

Requirements:


  • An aboveaverage Master's degree in geography or in a closely related discipline (economics, sociology, history, political sciences, anthropology, etc.)
  • Very good written and spoken English and German
  • Strong motivation for research
  • A residence in Switzerland or the willingness to move to Switzerland
  • Reliability and ability to work in an international team
