ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The General Secretariat directs administrative, human and financial resources and activities of the Union, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication/ICT matters for operational and other purposes, and the provision of legal advice to the whole of the Union.

The General Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Plan, monitors the telecommunication/ICT environment and recommends as needed action relating to the Union's future policies and strategy.

The General Secretariat ensures inter-sectoral coordination and cooperation to advance a whole of ITU approach (One-ITU) in headquarters and the field.

The General Secretariat provides logístical and information technology support to the Union's activities including conferences and global forums; the coordination of the work of the Union with the United Nations system, and other international organizations; and the engagement of the Member States, Sector Members, and Academia.

The General Secretariat manages corporate governance, and strategic communications and relations with the media, different stakeholder groups as well as the general public.

TERMS OF REFERENCE:

The Intern will work in close collaboration with the ITU Internal Audit team.

The intern will ensure that s/he adheres to the endeavours of the Oversight Unit to promote accountability and professionalism and to foster a culture of learning and improvement.

Under the guidance of the internal audit assignment leader, the intern will be tasked with the following:

Assisting in conducting audit testing and preparing audit working papers.
Collecting and analysing relevant audit evidence.
Formulating and documenting initial audit findings for review by the team leader.
Performs other duties as required such as maintaining audit documentation.

COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED:

Education:
University degree (or completing) in Business Administration, Law, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Experience:
No work experience required.

Languages:
Good knowledge of English and/ or French is essential (additional UN languages are a plus).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

It is expected that the assignment will provide the intern with the opportunity to develop skills in some of the following areas, depending on the needs of the team during the time of the internship:

Learn about ITU's structure and mandate.
Understand the Oversight functions of an international organization.
Acquiring and strengthening skills in research, writing and communication.
Developing knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods.
Developing knowledge of audit testing, audit working papers and audit conclusion.
Developing knowledge of ERP use and data / document extraction.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Unpaid internship.

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
