Job Description:


This position is embedded in the CUO team, and manages staff dedicated to analytical support of the non-life Underwriting teams.


You will be leading a team of 6 BUAs (Business Unit Analysts), located equally in Zurich and Stamford, the Head of Underwriting Reporting & Analysis is providing insights to the Non-Life Underwriting management.

The Head of Underwriting Reporting & Analysis supervises the BUA team in these main tasks:

  • The BUA is a business partner for underwriting leaders. Assist the underwriters in thinking through and executing any projects as needed. BUAs should represent the interest of underwriting in interactions with FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis), Reinsurance Accounting, Underwriting Operations, and any other Support Unit as needed.
  • Some of the core BUA tasks include the preparation of the quarterly Operations Reviews (with the Group CEO, CFO and CUO) and the coordination of the Underwriting Planning efforts and quarterly Production Outlooks.
  • The BUAs provide Underwriting with the analysis and assistance needed for client relationships and portfolio management, including Underwriting Planning, review of premium estimations, counterparty security reviews, and commutations
  • The BUAs provide quantitative analysis to support the management and control of the lifecycle of reinsurance contracts. Interface with FP&A as necessary to support financial results reporting and analysis.
The tasks of the Head of Underwriting Reporting & Analysis include:

  • Support of strategic projects (e.g., underwriting portfolio planning, per risk aggregation methodology and automation, business re-organizations, impact estimates for global events).
  • First point of escalation and frequent direct interactions with the Non-Life Underwriting Executive Team "B-ELT" (Business Executive Leadership Team). Support and challenge them on reporting and specific technical Underwriting topics (e.g., commutations, premium estimations).
  • Develop, maintain, and manage an appropriate control framework in the context of Sarbanes Oxley, PRE's IRM policy, and other external regulations, internal guidelines, or policies.
  • Align with the Management Information team about the governance of all underwriting related systems and data requirements
  • Interface with both the internal Corporate Audit Group and External Audit to support their review activities and help address management comments from all audit functions.
  • Interface closely with Underwriting Operations, including coordination of quarter closing activities, processing deadlines, etc.
  • Interface with Reinsurance Accounting as needed to resolve operational issues that impact underwriting results.
  • Support assumed commutation requests with direct client contact on behalf of underwriting, as needed.
  • Support the Head of Underwriting Analysis as necessary, and active participation in the Underwriting Analysis Management Team for all issues
