Internship Real-Time Robot Control from Ubuntu ETHZ - Zürich, Schweiz - Industrial Robotics Group Zürich (IRZ)

    Default job background
    CDI
    Beschreibung

The Industrial Robotics Group (IRZ) at ETH Zürich and Inspire AG is rapidly expanding and focusing on addressing critical challenges in robot-based manufacturing. We employ advanced computational methods, machine learning, modeling, and custom hardware and software to continually test our solutions in various real-world industry projects.

The industry has shown a keen interest in our "IT-to-industry" concept, which we promote. However, there is hesitancy due to our inability to guarantee hard real-time requirements currently. In this project, your task is to establish the foundation that will enable us to achieve NC-level performance while retaining access to the vast ecosystem of IT and computer science using standard C/C++. We aim to achieve this goal by utilizing the real-time Ubuntu kernel and creating a reusable hard real-time hardware interface module. All of this should be implemented to run on a virtual machine within our cluster using standard server hardware.

We are seeking a dynamic and versatile intern with strong C++ programming skills, a deep understanding of computer architecture, and a hands-on approach to making complex systems function effectively.

    Tasks

    • Setting-up a benchmarking environment
    • Defining and implementing Stress-Tests
    • Implementing control system where one VM is the controller and the other stimulates the plant in real-time
    • Investigating and optimize implementation.
    • Documentation of findings
    • Implementation and benchmarking of Motor control (real robot)

    Requirements

    • Setting up a benchmarking environment.
    • Defining and implementing stress tests.
    • Implementing a control system where one VM serves as the controller while the other stimulates the plant in real-time.
    • Investigating and optimizing the implementation.
    • Documenting findings.
    • Implementing and benchmarking motor control (real robot).

    Benefits

    • Possibility to make an impact on how we automate and control industrial hardware in future
    • Exposure to professional project management in a start-up atmosphere
    • A culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and no BS.
    • One-on-one mentoring by seasoned professionals.
    • Highly motivated and driven colleagues.

? Are you someone who is exceptionally well-organized and detail-oriented? If you are resilient and excel in tackling complex challenges in a fast-paced research environment, we encourage you to have a look at IRZ's webpage and apply for the position.

The Industrial Robotics Lab Zürich (IRZ) is a research group within the Advanced Manufacturing Lab (am|z) at ETH Zurich, and inspire AG.

With broad expertise in both, computer science as well as mechanical and process engineering, we are in a unique position to tackle fundamental problems within robot based manufacturing with multidisciplinary and data-driven approaches. Our well equipped lab enables us to quickly bring our ideas to the test.

Embedded in the scholarly environment of ETH Zurich and backed by Inspire's resources, network and industrial expertise, we regard it as our mission to bridge the gap between academia and the production line.
