The Experimental Animal Center (EAC) is the structural unit of the University of Bern carrying the responsibility for in-vivo research.

In its multispecies, decentralized animal facilities, the EAC aims at providing state of the art use and care of the animal programs.

The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the "culture of care" and compliance to guidelines and regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy.

Areas of responsibility

Managing the infrastructure and equipment of the animal facilities to comply with internal, national and international guidelines.
Maintaining inventory, equipment, facility setup, and records relating to operations; including purchasing general supplies, ensuring proper functioning of facility equipment, and coordinating equipment repair and maintenance
Assistance with quality assurance methods to check the hygiene of the animal facilities, the water quality and the sterilisation chambers
Ensure appropriate staff technical training, supervision and evaluation
Develop a centralised procurement system for the EAC facilities (animals, equipment and materials), verify that adequate supplies of expendables are available at all times to support the barrier husbandry operations and the maintenance of facilities
Assistance in the preparation of comprehensive cost analyses in accordance with the guidelines of the granting authorities
Develop and revise animal facility SOPs in conjunction with the facility managers. Ensure adherence to SOPs, quality assurance guidelines and protocols

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biology or relative field, desired
At least 3 years of working experience in animal facilities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Initiative, goal oriented and excellent organizational skills, ambitious, stress resistant
Fluent in English and/or German, other languages are a plus
