Global Public Affairs helps Novartis navigate and shape the external policy environment in support of our mission to re-imagine medicine, and help our medicines reach more patients, faster worldwide.

In this context, our Policy team is growing with an exciting new role focused on the impact of geopolitics on life sciences innovation and our business.

The Director, Geopolitics and Life Sciences Innovation will be part of the GPA Policy team, based in Basel, and work closely with both the broader Public Affairs community and key functions such as IP, Regulatory, Patient Access.

The role will be focused on identifying and shaping policy trends relevant to the competitiveness of the life sciences industry in general, and Novartis in particular, in our top geographies including new inter-dependencies and potential disruptions due to the evolving geopolitical environment.

Minimum requirements

  • A demonstrated, sharp understanding of the policies underpinning the success of the life sciences industry in US, EU, China and Japan
  • An understanding of how macroeconomics and trade policies affect the fundamentals of our business
- ~15yrs work experience in one or a combination of Intellectual Property, Regulatory and/or Trade policy

  • Experience relevant to US, EU and/or China; Experience with multilateral organizations a plus
  • Advanced degree preferred; English proficiency, additional languages a plus

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications in related fields (e.g., finance, tax, regulatory etc.) are a plus.
  • Corporate and/or commercial lawyer or with relevant experience with the ability to: analyse complex legal issues; lead contract negotiations of several complex projects independently; and play a key coordination role with lawyers and other functional experts and having a minimum of six years postqualification experience with a toptier law firm.
  • Able to set priorities and to manage a wideranging workload under time and organisational pressure, often involving multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Competent in employment law matters for Irish jurisdiction, with solid track record in employment law advisory work.
  • Excellent team player with strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience working in crossfunctional teams.
  • Strong ability to influence and negotiate with a clear demonstration of professional and culturally sensitive work ethics.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of at least one other European language preferred.
