ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT


The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) fulfills the objectives of the Union relating to telecommunication standardization, by providing secretariat support to groups studying technical, operating and tariff questions and facilitating the adoption of Recommendations in these areas with a view to standardizing telecommunications and information technology on a global basis.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau works in accordance with the instructions of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group.

TSB, headed by an elected Director, provides the technical, administrative and logistic support for the assemblies and for the meetings of the groups mentioned.


The Study Groups Department (SGD) is responsible for facilitating, managing and supporting the work of the ITU-T study groups in the development of global telecommunication standards (ITU-T Recommendations) and other documents and databases related to standardization.

It provides the counsel and secretariat for the Sector's study groups, focus groups and other ad hoc groups.

Particular attention is given to "Bridging the Standardization Gap", i.e., to strengthen the participation of developing countries in the standards making process.

The Department maintains close relations with the ITU Radiocommunication and Telecommunication Development Sectors and takes part in their work as required.

Likewise, it cooperates with other global standards organizations such as ISO and IEC as well as recognized industry forums and consortia.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Study Group Advisor, and in close collaboration with the Counsellor responsible for a specific ITU-T group or other working group, the incumbent performs the following duties:

  • Provides support to ITU-T Members and meeting participants:
  • Registering and processing documents for group meetings, including circulars and collective letters.
  • Posting formal and informal documents Contributions, meeting documents for the group concerned using the applicable IT platform and tools, inter alia, DMS/DSP/DDP, SharePoint and FTP.
  • Ensuring, in collaboration with all services concerned, that the latest information is available during meetings via the ITU website.
  • Assisting meeting participants in the access to and use of electronic documents and remote participation systems.
  • Drafts input documents for meetings and other group activities with precise instructions from Counsellors. Aligns text of group documents translated into one or more of the six working languages of the Union.
  • Keeps up to date the work programme information, extracting and analyzing changes provided by the membership and group management in various reports and documents that are found in various information systems for the group.
  • Brings to the attention of the Counsellor identified conflicting information for resolution. The information to be updated includes all records pertaining to new and existing work items, interim meeting, group contact (chairs, rapporteurs, editors, etc.), and liaison statements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (continuation):


  • Performs editorial work in order to prepare documents for publication:
  • Preparing new/revised Recommendations, supplements, amendments and corrigenda for pre-publication and editing, taking into consideration appropriate editorial guidelines. Submitting these documents for prepublication or publication to the appropriate
    TSB service and preparing other publication to their final versions.
  • Processing other publications to their final versions.
  • Ensuring alignment between publications in the six official languages of the Union, as necessary.
  • Provides secretarial and administrative services to the Counsellor, ITU
