- Prepare/draft new patent applications for inventions
- Prosecute office action responses, including responses to office actions before the European Patent Office (EPO) as well as providing detailed guidance to non-EPO associates for the preparation of responses to office actions also in other jurisdictions
- Work autonomously to manage a portfolio of cases and associated prosecution deadlines, whilst also being able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within both the Global Patents Group and wider cross-functional teams on other projects
- Prepare divisional and continuation applications as appropriate
- Prepare oppositions and observations by 3rd parties
- Support IP enforcement, conflicts, and litigation, including cooperation and collaboration with other in-house and/or outside counsels, and including developing/driving strategy, gathering evidence, developing claim charts, developing positions, risk assessment, tracking deadlines, and advising stakeholders
- Provide guidance to technology innovators and developers for new technologies, improvements, and technological solutions to existing challenges (design arounds)
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the IP Director and CLO
- Experience working in a law/IP firm and/or in-house for large global companies
- A minimum of 5 years of experience drafting and prosecuting of patent applications
- An ability to focus on the detail as well as being able to see the bigger picture.
- The ability to work to tight deadlines and to handle several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely with different stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and especially written communication skills in English and German
- Qualified or experienced in working with a patent office of another European jurisdiction.
- Strong analytical skills and are able to quickly grasp new areas of technology.
- Technical experience of working in the field of medicament delivery devices
- Experience with the IP-Folio management tool
- A good science or engineering degree and broad-based interest in science and technology
- Qualified European patent attorney with experience in patent drafting, patent prosecution, oppositions, and patent portfolio management
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, practices and procedures relating to patenting in Europe, US and Asia

Job Overview
This role will provide an opportunity to work with a global and cross-functional team on specific aspects of the innovation and patenting cycle across SHL's activities. The European Patent Attorney will be responsible for prosecuting and managing a global patent portfolio including drafting patent applications in cooperation with outside patent counsels and acting as the European representative before the European Patent Office for European applications
