The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it's girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children's rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for - and respond to - crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 80 countries.

We strive for a just world that advances children's rights and equality for girls.

At Plan International we have set ourselves an ambitious goal to transform the lives of 100 million girls over five years.

We are working with local communities in more than 50 countries to ensure all children enjoy the rights to which they are entitled.

Given that girls are often the most vulnerable, we place a special focus on tackling the challenges they face - such as ending child marriage, keeping them in school, and helping them to speak up for themselves.

To transform lives, cultures, and societies, we need to be a dynamic and agile organisation that can deliver real change.

Our five-year Global Strategy challenges us to transform how we work.

Plan International has Liaison Offices in New York, Geneva, Brussels, and Addis Ababa that are responsible for managing relations with the United Nations, the European Union, and the African Union.

Plan's Geneva UN Liaison Office is part of the UN team hosted under Plan International's Strategy and Engagement department.

We seek to increase our influencing quality and impact at the global, national, and local levels by working closely with colleagues across the Plan International network and through liaison offices in New York, Geneva, Brussels, and Addis Ababa that manage relations with the United Nations, the European Union, and the African Union.

The UN Representative & Head of the Geneva Office works as part of the UN Leadership Team (UNLT) to lead the strategic thinking and planning for Plan International's engagement at the United Nations in Geneva.

This role supports the advancement of Plan International's Global Strategy, Global Advocacy Strategy (GLAS) and focusing on the priorities identified in Plan International's UN Strategy.

It will help continue consistency in policy and advocacy messaging and approach to ensure maximum impact, visibility, and a firmly established organisational voice in relevant spaces.

This role will ensure the effective and strategic realisation of Plan International UN engagements in Geneva, including at the HRC, UNHCR engagement, Humanitarian Partnership week, etc.

and working with human rights mechanisms, and special procedures.

Equality, diversity and inclusion is at the very heart of everything that Plan International stands for.

Plan International is based on a culture of inclusivity and we strive to create a workplace environment that ensures every team, in every office, in every country, is rich in diverse people, thoughts, and ideas.

We foster an organisational culture that embraces our commitment to racial justice, gender equality, girls' rights and inclusion.

Plan International believes that in a world where children face so many threats of harm, it is our duty to ensure that we, as an organisation, do everything we can to keep children safe.

This means that we have particular responsibilities to children that we come into contact with and we must not contribute in any way to harming or placing children at risk.
