    The Position

    This position is within the Ophthalmology team, part of the pRED Cardiovascular & Metabolism, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology (CMI2O) that focuses on the discovery and early development of innovative treatments for specific diseases that affect the lives of millions.

    We partner and collaborate with leading scientific institutions worldwide to tackle grand challenges by assembling, funding, and leading interdisciplinary teams of experts to work on highly ambitious and complex scientific questions.

    Job mission

    We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel.

    We are a community of drug-hunters comprising research expertise in age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, genomic medicines, and dry eye disease. Our responsibility, in collaboration with our clinical colleagues and functions, is to convert hypotheses into innovative medicines for treating ocular diseases of high unmet medical need.

    We are seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist to explore novel drug targets towards the development of transformative medicines for dry eye disease. A previous expertise in respective in-vivo and in vitro models of dry eye disease is preferred. Your responsibilities include the implementation of appropriate strategies to answer key hypotheses to advance discovery projects to deliver clinical candidates. You are business-savvy, creative and curious to learn and possess the interpersonal skills and scientific leadership to drive scientific excellence at a project level.

    You will hold these primary responsibilities:

  • You independently lead research project(s) from project initiation to clinical trials.
  • You plan, organize, and analyze experiments of your research project(s) and lead associates assigned to the project(s)
  • You utilize in vitro and in vivo models of ocular surface diseases to identify and examine potential drug targets for dry eye disease.
  • You utilize your external network to initiate external collaborations to bolster internal drug discovery efforts.
  • You communicate progress to governance bodies and through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • You contribute to ocular surface strategy and identify gaps in our portfolio.

  • Who you are:

    You're someone who wants to influence your own development. You're looking for a company where you can pursue your interests across functions and geographies. You bring new ideas and also previous knowledge of ocular surface diseases in ophthalmology.

  • You hold a PhD, have conducted a post-doc in an appropriate field and worked 3-5 years thereafter in the field of dry eye disease and/or immunology.
  • Familiar with ocular surface disease models and have experience directly performing experiments using these models.
  • Hands-on experience with animal procedures and cellular vitro model systems.
  • You are well organized and committed to formal record-keeping, a team player, and you foster a collaborative spirit with scientists and colleagues.
  • You can adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment, are fluent in English and have good presentation and communication skills.
  • You have demonstrated independent research and leadership of a team
  • A strong publication record.
