Your mission :
The BioNanoPhotonic Systems (BIOS) laboratory at the Institute of BioEngineering at EPFL Switzerland, is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to work on nanophotonic point-of-care (POC) systems. BIOS lab has world leading expertise in developing novel nanophotonic devices for cutting-edge biomedical applications by using toolkits including metasurfaces, microfluidics, nanofabrication, advanced data analysis. In addition, BIOS has strong interactions with industry to address important challenges in healthcare and environmental sciences. This project is multidisciplinary with emphasis on device integration, user interface design and data processing. The ultimate goal of the project is to combine multiple nanophotonic devices, optical and optoelectronic components to realize miniaturized POC devices using IR spectroscopy and bioimaging for bioanalytical applications. Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • Developing nanophotonic systems and prototypes for infrared biosensing and imaging
  • Integrating nanophotonic devices and mid-infrared components into a POC device for biomolecular analysis
  • Creating user-friendly software interfaces
  • Analyzing experimental IR imaging data and vibrational fingerprints for detection and identification of mixed samples with the POC systems
  • Validating assembled nanotechnology-based POC systems for applications in the field
  • Your profile :
  • Knowledge and experience in device integration, signal processing and data analysis are required.
  • Experience in photonics and nanotechnology are preferred.
  • Previous experience in system integration and/or prototype of optoelectronic and/or electronic devices
  • Knowledge of programming user interfaces for devices (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, or Matlab)
  • Experience of data analysis of spectroscopy signals from complex samples is a plus
