JOB PURPOSE: Caterpillar dealers utilize marketing and sales analytics tools to support growth in the aftermarket. The Analytics Technical Specialist on the Aftermarket Sales and Opportunity Deployment Team contributes to this mission by providing analysis and data monitoring support for Caterpillar employees and dealers.

JOB DUTIES: The principal responsibility of Senior Data Specialist is to provide data analysis and health support to Caterpillar dealers and internal employees.

The incumbent will participate on cross-functional project teams, provide overall guidance to the technical direction of the projects, and recommend technical approaches being used in order to solve a problem. Expectations of this role is to work with key users to provide data analysis and health support related to the health and quality of dealer data that serve as valuable inputs into key aftermarket marketing applications.

This role will work with application development teams within Cat Digital and will also work with dealer facing reps and Regional DSD organizations to drive improvements in dealer data quality as well as the dealer’s overall data maintenance practices.

The Senior Data Specialist will:

Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in the application statistical methods and/or digital methods to solve business problems.
Work with the application development teams to identify key measurements for analyzing the health and quality of data that is used as input for aftermarket applications.
Work with the BI development team to write requirements for data visualizations of metrics that will accurately communicate the health and quality of critical input data for aftermarket applications.
Provide user support to ensure Data Health Metrics are calculated and published correctly and understood by internal and dealer users. They will also monitor the Data Health Metrics dashboard as required to identify and solve problems and can provide training as required.
Provides data analytics to internal and dealer users of the metrics supported to solve key business questions.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.: its products and services, its internal systems, processes, and procedures, and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.) to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new methods to exceed customer expectations and will have a strong focus on continual learning.

Significant challenges of this position are working with people - enhancing the team’s creativity, maintaining knowledge of approaches used in similar projects, and pushing the technical bounds of experimentation while meeting customer commitments. The Senior Data Specialist acts as support consultant for the team in establishing a sound analytic approach for solving the problem at hand.

The incumbent will develop good networks within the technical community to enable them to collaborate on technical solutions, obtain resources and cooperation needed, and remove roadblocks so that they can ensure the success of their team. The incumbent will also develop good networks within the dealer facing community, educating them on data health metrics to enable them to drive action with dealers to improve critical marketing data.

Responsibilities include dealer engagement on Application Data Health metric monitoring and follow-up; identifying, documenting and resolving issues; and dealer communication and education of Aftermarket Data Health.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in Data Science, Statistics, Information Technology, Economics, Mathematics, or a similar field with quantitative coursework
5 years or more of experience in data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.)

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

Must be comfortable working in MS Office, troubleshooting custom computer applications, and industry standard statistics and data visualization packages.
Experience using SQL and Alteryx
Good problem-solving and effective troubleshooting skills
Comfortable working in industry standard statistics and data visualization packages (i.e. Tableau, Power BI)
Understanding of Aftermarket Data Sets and Applications (OLGA, PSE, STU, Jupiter, Sales Allocation)
Demonstrated proficiency in leading and facilitating meetings is highly desired
Strong analytical and organizational skills highly desired
Proven ability to build trust through effective team relationships
Must have a strong customer focus, possess dealer and customer experience, knowledge of company products, product applications, and customer workflows.
Must demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work independently.

Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or influence others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
Strong communication skills capable of communicating with senior management, senior dealer personnel, and technical experts
Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment
Demonstrated leadership on small to medium-scale projects impacting strategic priorities
