Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) delivers professional correctional services and programs to reduce the risk of re-offending and enhance public safety. It serves a key function of the NSW Justice sector by providing effective, safe and humane management of offenders both in custody and in the community CSNSW also works in partnership with other government and community agencies to ensure that offenders and their families are supported.

Community Corrections is one arm of CSNSW that supervises offenders who are subject to community-based orders imposed by the courts or State Parole Authority. Community Corrections supervise offenders on various community-based supervision orders and aims to reduce the impact of crime on the community by effectively case managing offenders to achieve resettlement and successful order completion.

About the role:

  • Provide professional support, mentoring and leadership to a team of Community Corrections Officers (CCOs) to maintain a high standard of professional service delivery that is compliant with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive team with positive and transparent culture focussed on practice excellence.
  • Guide and support team members with differing levels of experience and technical competence to enable their development. 
  • Assess risk and prioritise demands within available resources to ensure the quality of interventions are maintained at a high standard, and resources are targeted to where they will have the greatest impact.
  • Work as part of a leadership team to identify systemic areas for development and implement and monitor activities to ensure team members’ quality work practices.

    About you:

  • Strong leadership skills, including in engaging and motivating staff, and previous experience in providing professional supervision, development and coaching.
  • Flexible and resilient, to respond to the varied demands of a Community Corrections Office and manage complex and higher risk offenders.
  • Skills and confidence to provide clear and constructive feedback to promote individual accountability and develop staff capability.

    • Essential Requirements:

  • Current driver’s licence and have a willingness/ability to drive within NSW.

    • Key knowledge and experience:

  • Capacity to provide professional supervision, coaching and mentoring to develop team members, including new CCOs during “on the job training” and a mandatory probation period.
  • Superior skills in offender supervision and case management and demonstrated understanding of current Community Corrections issues and priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting background enquiries, analysing complex information and risk / needs assessment in the development of case plans and workload prioritisation.
