Who we are looking for


We are looking for an Intern who is currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Masters degree in economics, econometrics, data science, financial engineering, business administration in the United Kingdom or related fields which have a strong statistics emphasis.


Based in our Geneva office, you will be part of the Markets and Credit Risk team, with colleagues in Geneva and London.

This is a fixed-term or internship role for a duration of 3 months.

About the Job

The main purpose of this intern role is to conduct a statistical analysis of loan and financial institution (FI) data from the Symbiotics Investments database, to explore and determine statistical relationships between variables from the database and defaults in the Symbiotics Investments portfolio.


The role will involve working as part of a team in charge of updating the Credit Risk Rating scoring tool.


The role will require the following:

  • Compile relevant indicators of loan and FIs from the historical and current investment universe of Symbiotics Investments (historical and current portfolio of loans and bonds to emerging market FIs)
  • Explore predictive power of compiled variables on historical defaults, using different statistical methods and software such as Stata, or the programming languages R and Python
  • Propose various predictive models and rank them on their relevance given scope of project
  • Deliver report highlighting key findings regarding relations between FI metrics and observed defaults
  • Provide recommendations on how to best integrate the findings of the statistical analysis into an upgrade of the Credit Risk Rating scoring tool.
Your Qualification

We are looking for a dynamic person who can work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, able to process and analyse data in context, and able to advise on findings.

More specifically, you have the following skills and competencies:

Enrolled in Bachelor or Master degree in economics, econometrics, data science, financial engineering, business administration in the United Kingdom or related fields which have a strong statistics emphasis
Prior experience in performing statistical analysis (work or academic) on large data sets using statistical tools such as Stata, or the programming languages R and Python
Strong Excel modelling skills
Enjoy collaborating with others to reach common goals
Comfortable to work in an international and multi-cultural workplace
Have an interest in impact finance and/or sustainable development
Able to work comfortably in English.
Swiss Citizen or valid Swiss student Permit required.
