Founded in late 2019, Athebio is a highly dynamic biotech startup developing advanced binding molecules for pharma partners based on Designed Ankyrin Repeat Proteins (DARPins).

At our location in the Bio-Technopark in Schlieren, Zurich, Switzerland, we are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate with an accurate and goal-oriented working style to join our R&D team.

In this position a key responsibility will be the selection (by ribosome display) and screening of Athebody DARPins.


Your responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments in area of selection and screening, protein expression and purification, and downstream characterization of Athebody DARPins
  • Critically evaluate and interpret experimental data and communicate results to the team
  • Accurately document experiments and results in electronic lab notebooks and databases
  • Support project leaders with experiments and results as well as constant optimization of the laboratory organization
  • Maintain, improve, and develop new standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support routine laboratory activities, e.g., maintenance of equipment, preparation of buffers, and ordering of consumables and reagents Key requirements
  • BSc or MSc in a field of Life Sciences, e.g., (molecular/chemical) biology, biochemistry, or similar
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience
  • Affinity to precise and clean working. This is a prerequisite for doing successful ribosome display selections
  • Experience in selection, screening of immunoglobulins (or other binding proteins), and protein expression (experience in working with RNA and PCR is a plus)
  • Openness to learn new methods, e.g. analytical SEC/HPLC
  • Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy (CD) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)
  • Timely, independent, and exact working style in the planning and conduct of experiments and accurate documentation thereof
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving attitude
  • Team player with proactive communication
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fastpaced entrepreneurial environment
  • Familiarity with stateoftheart IT and communication tools, electronic lab journals, and profound knowledge of Microsoft Office advanced skills in Excel would be a plus
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • German would be a plus
