MOSEBETSI OBED MAKUMANE

An experienced development economist and consultant specializing in project appraisal, due diligence, project life cycle management, and socio-economic development. With over a decade of expertise in economic development and project finance, research, resource mobilization, risk management, investment promotion, trade policy, and corporate governance, I have consistently delivered impactful results.

Currently a Managing Consultant, I provide strategic consultancy services, focusing on project proposal preparation, appraisal, project finance, and comprehensive research. My skills in stakeholder engagement, attention to detail, and effective presentations drive project success.

In my previous role as a Due Diligence Consultant, I have aligned projects with financier requirements, conducted meticulous project due diligence, and mobilized private capital for implementation.

During my tenure as a Research Consultant, I led a research study on gender-based barriers to financial inclusion in Lesotho, aimed at empowering women and enhancing their financial access.

I have served on the boards of three companies as Director and Alternate Director, providing corporate governance and strategic oversight to achieve maximum financial outcomes and developmental impact.

Previously, as a Projects/Equity Portfolio Manager, I supervised project appraisal processes, developed and refined due diligence systems, and liaised with subsidiary companies to optimize shareholder value and profitability.

As an Interim Managing Director, I led a subsidiary company's turnaround strategy, oversaw overall operations, negotiated market development and business deals, and implemented strategic reforms. These resulted in saving the company from certain financial collapse.

While consulting as a Technical Reviewer for a World Bank/IFAD-funded grant program, which was aimed at fostering the growth of agriculture-related small businesses, I evaluated grant requests and recommended the most appropriate courses of action. The grants significantly improved Lesotho's smallholder agricultural commercialization and boosted economic growth.

My career includes a previous role as an Agricultural Marketing and Trade Officer, which entailed conducting market research, guiding farmers on market-oriented production and commercialization, and representing Lesotho in regional agricultural trade negotiations.
