Maria Chiara Piani

As a Medical Doctor and PhD student specializing in neuroscience, my research primarily focuses on exploring the biological underpinnings of various disorders through advanced scientific and data analysis techniques. My professional journey has fueled a passion for continuously expanding my skill set, particularly in data analysis, clinical projects and scientific writing.

In addition to my technical proficiency, I bring extensive experience working in inclusive, international, and patient-oriented environments.
My collaborative nature and commitment to fostering positive team dynamics, along with my dedication to open and constructive communication, have enabled me to maintain strong relationships with team members. I highly value workplace flexibility and effective time management, which enhance work-life balance and amplify my effectiveness.

My journey into clinical science started when I graduated from medical school in Milan, Italy, through an international program. After graduation, I focused on neuroscience in psychiatry as a research assistant, where I worked extensively with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data analysis, developing my analytical and research skills. My dedication to neuroscience led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Bern, Switzerland, which I will complete in December this year.

During my Ph.D., I led a project involving the recruitment of both healthy individuals and patients with psychotic disorders. I conducted neuropsychiatric interviews and administered EEG and fMRI tests to collect data, which I then analyzed and interpreted. Additionally, I participated in various conferences, presenting my work in the form of posters or talks. I have undertaken extensive training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), systematic review and meta-analysis methods, and coding in Matlab, Python, and R. Courses in public speaking and scientific writing have enhanced my communication and presentation skills.

In 2020 I graduated in Medicine (MD) at the University of Milan, International Medical School.

In 2022 I started a PhD in Neuroscience at the Universitäre Psychiatrische Dienste Bern UPD, Graduate School for Health Sciences, which I will finish in December 2024.
