Eliã Rafael Lima Batista

I’m a software engineer based in Lugano, Switzerland, with over a decade of experience in front-end and full-stack development. I’m passionate about building scalable, high-performance applications and creating seamless user experiences. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science at USI, I bridge academic research and industry practice to design dependable distributed systems.

I have extensive experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on front-end and full-stack development. Before starting my PhD in Switzerland, I spent over a decade in the software industry in Brazil, working at companies such as Compasso UOL, Bem Promotora, DBServer, and Vensis. During this time, I led the development of scalable web and mobile applications using ReactJS, React Native, and Node.js, contributing to architecture design, UI/UX implementation, and Agile development processes. My work emphasized building responsive, user-centric interfaces and integrating secure, high-performance RESTful APIs. I also gained solid experience developing ERP systems and optimizing databases with SQL Server to improve performance and reliability.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Informatics at the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland, in a joint doctoral program (cotutelle de thèse) with PUC-RS, Brazil. My research focuses on distributed dependable systems, including state machine replication, fault tolerance, and performance optimization. I also hold both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from PUC-RS, where I developed a strong foundation in systems design, software engineering, and distributed computing.
