For our client, a renowned pharmaceutical company based in Bern, we are looking for a Scientist - Process Development and Optimization.

Background

CSL Behring is a global biotherapeutics leader driven by its promise to save lives.

Focused on serving patients' needs by using the latest technologies, we develop and deliver innovative therapies that treat coagulation disorders, primary immune deficiencies, hereditary angioedema, respiratory disease, and neurological disorders.

The company's products are also used in cardiac surgery, burn treatment and to prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn.

The Opportunity

CSL is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the BioProcess Development team at Bern.

You will play an important role in developing plasma-protein purification techniques and methods at lab and KiloLab scale, which are planned to be integrated into current or new production facilities in future.

Within our department we are continuously striving to improve current processes, focusing especially on yields.

Tasks

  • Independent planning, performing, and evaluation of experiments
  • Write and review protocols and reports
  • Play an active role in the development and optimization of the manufacturing process
  • Support and train new team members to be able to perform experiments successfully
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration on critical instrumentation

Requirements:

University (or equivalent institution of higher education) degree in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Process Development). Higher postgraduate degrees, e.g. Masters or PhD, will be well regarded

  • Independent planning, conducting/performing and supervising laboratory experiments in the context of process development studies for plasma products
  • Experience with affinity chromatography in combination with ÄKTA Systems and software will be well regarded
  • Experience with solidliquid separation techniques will be well regarded
  • Experience in or familiarity with Data Processing Software (e.g. JMP or R)
  • Experience in or familiarity with Quality by Design principles, including Design of Experiments (DoE) will be well regarded
  • Good scientific report writing (in English) and presentation skills
  • Interest in lab work (approx. 70 % lab and 30 % office)
  • Highly motivated and strong interpersonal skills
  • Language proficiency: near native / fluent in German and / or English. Highly proficient in both languages will be well regarded
