The IUCN website manager works with IUCN staff across the Union as well as external contractors and partners to create, update and maintain web pages and digital content on the IUCN website.

The position requires a mix of web content strategy, technical talent and a solutions-oriented approach to working directly with colleagues around the world.

This is a pivotal role and an excellent opportunity for a competent, motivated website manager to showcase their skills with a highly visible, complex, international website.

The position requires someone who can understand the big picture and who is capable of prioritising and acting independently to get the job done.

The workload ranges from rapid-fire bug fixes to improving content presentation to liaising with various stakeholders to identify the most appropriate and effective ways to present their content on the website.

The position will require someone who is well organised, can work independently and make proactive suggestions within broad guidelines, and who can maintain composure, efficiency and professionalism in stressful situations.

IUCN follows a decentralised model for managing website content.

Dozens of site managers in IUCN regional and headquarters units and with IUCN Commissions add and edit content on the website related to their work.

The IUCN website manager is responsible for publishing central and corporate content, supporting these site managers and working with IUCN's Global Information Systems Group and external consultants to maintain site performance, optimisation and security.

The latest version of was launched in 2022 using Drupal. We are continuously improving and optimising the website to enhance user experience and backend infrastructure. The website's objectives, focus, architecture and capabilities are all major departures from past IUCN websites.

The site combines many "out of the box" components and plug-ins as well as custom integrations and configurations specific to IUCN's needs.

It uses a component-based system to create unique pages from a catalogue of various content display components offering a variety of ways to display and organise the content.

The website requires new ways of approaching content from both editorial and technical perspectives.

The IUCN website manager will play an integral role in helping IUCN transition content to the new site and make full use of the benefits the website offers.

With a wide range of duties required of the incumbent, the IUCN website manager must be self-motivated and able to prioritise various demands and day-to-day activities under tight deadlines.

The website manager will report to the Senior Global Communications Manager in the Global Communications Unit and will work closely with members of the Global Communications Unit (GCU), the Global Information Systems Group (GISG) and IUCN staff around the world.
