General Description
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and visionary teacher to work closely with administrators and
a wider team to deepen a culture of student centred learning and pedagogical practices across the High
School.

The EAL Teacher, Coordinator and Coach will be responsible for supporting students on the Student
Support Services Team (SSST) register and also providing instructional support and coaching to teachers
as we transition to a Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework and further develop student
centred and inquiry driven pedagogical approaches and practices through centring practises that explicitly
support our bilingual and multilingual learners, who make up the majority of our student population.

The primary role of the EAL Teacher, Coordinator and Coach is working with students through 1:1, small
support, as part of a team, the capacity building of teachers to support bilingual and multilingual learners
in the classroom, work with teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of
classroom and school-wide trends in instruction and make recommendations about potential next steps to
address areas of individual needs of students. Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
planning would be an advantage in supporting this work.

order to adapt curriculum, and sharing of best practices across all academic disciplines. They will also
support educators across all content areas but will also support teachers in implementing specially
designed instruction and interventions for students.

In addition, all teachers participate in our student Personal Development Programme as a Homeroom,
PSHE or Service Project leader and are also expected to support an ethos of holistic learning through
their support of an after school club, activity or sport.


Areas of Responsibility

Working with ISZL Students
Teach EAL courses at the High School and maintain EAL curriculum documentation for these
- courses.
  • Use effective inclass support strategies to ensure differentiation and EAL student access to the

- curriculum.
  • Assess students placement into and exit from EAL support.
  • Create, review, and update EAL student targets.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the educational and linguistic backgrounds of EAL students

- they support.
  • Affirm the multilingual profiles of students and promote mother tongue/heritage language
maintenance at the school.

  • Collaborate with members of the student support services team to ensure the support and
monitoring of EAL students who may have additional academic or social/emotional needs.

  • Participate in Personal Development Week (experiential education trip) and our Personal
Development Programme (i.e, teaching PSHE, Homeroom or Service as Action).

  • Contribute to the smooth running of the school through performing regular duties and being
familiar with school policies.

  • Lead by example and partner with students in their engagement with the community, locally,
nationally, and internationally.

Working with ISZL Colleagues
Thinks strategically and supports all stakeholders in a transition to MTSS, in conjunction with the

  • Director of Student Support Services and the wider student support services team.
  • Supporting teachers with designing and implementing rigorous and culturally responsive
- strategies that meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Provides instructional coaching in all academic areas which includes studentcentred
observation-feedback cycles with individual teachers focused on improving student outcomes
through effective instruction and assessment.

  • Facilitates reflection and problem solving with teachers.
  • Creates an environment that establishes and promotes continuous improvement for student

- outcomes.
  • Collaborates with teachers and provides specific strategies for improved instructional delivery
with research-based instructional strategies and interventions to improve achievement for all
students.

  • Coteaches and/or models lessons as needed to support teacher development.
  • Builds teacher capacity in ensuring all have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities
- that take individual student needs into consideration.
  • Establishes a culture that uses student data regularly to improve instructional practices.
  • Builds teacher capacity in effectively using formative data to inform instruction.
