Job Purpose

The Category Manager - Indirect, based in Basel for the European Procurement Hub, is a key contributor to achieving savings, increasing spend coverage, and identifying and delivering syner-gies through focused and strategic procurement activities.

This role holds responsibility for ensur-ing the quality, cost-effectiveness, timely delivery, service excellence, and regulatory compliance of procured and outsourced materials, goods, and services.

The position supports various Straumann group entities, corporate functions located in Europe, and the global headquarters in Basel.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategic Category Planning:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for indirect subcategories, aligning with overall organizational goals.
  • Analyse market trends, conduct spend analysis, and identify opportunities for consolidation and cost savings.

Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers in indirect subcategories.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to drive innovation, enhance service levels, and optimize costs.

Sourcing Strategy Execution:

  • Implement sourcing strategies that maximize value, considering total cost of ownership.
  • Lead competitive bidding processes, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with procurement policies.

Cost Optimization:

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction within indirect subcategories.
  • Implement initiatives to optimize spending, improve efficiency, and achieve budgetary goals.

Contract Negotiation and Management:

  • Lead contract negotiations for indirect subcategories, ensuring favourable terms and conditions.
  • Ensure that contractual agreements align with Straumann's goals and compliance standards.

Risk Management:

  • Assess and manage risks associated with indirect subcategories, implementing strategies for mitigation.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and evaluate potential risks in the supply chain.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Facilitate clear communication between internal stakeholders and suppliers within indirect subcategories.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to align category management activities with organizational objectives.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
Priorities

  • Build effective and trusted relationships with stakeholder and suppliers.
  • Increase the spend managed by Procurement and accelerate the achievement of savings targets.
  • Work cooperatively with other Category Managers and European Sourcing Hub as a team member to meet common objectives in the Procurement transformation and digitalization journey.

Profile

  • Preferred education: Master, MBA academic degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering
  • Professional certification: CPSM or CIPS desired
  • Language: English (excellent written and spoken), Others fluency in at least one additional language is advantageous (e.g. German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese)
Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in strategic procurement role (category management, strategic sourcing) with exposure to supply chain management (regionally or globally), complex strategic sourcing in a global matrix environment, optimal procurement processes and standards
  • Demonstrated performance in working within crossfunctional teams, with requisite drive and energy to be successful in delivering a challenging transformation agenda.
  • Experience on Indirect categories.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed timeframe, in an agile environment
  • Proven ability to work with crossfunctional teams and build relationships across multiple functions, countries, regions and cultures
  • Expert negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to assess risks associated with supplier and market changes in a regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions.
