Beschreibung

This position is located in the Innovative Policies Development Section (IPDS) of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division of the Economic Commission for Europe.

The incumbent reports to the manager of the UN Development Account Project 2023N "Strengthening innovation policies for SPECA countries in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development".

The temporary position is available until 11 August 2023.

The beneficiaries of this project are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

This project will support its beneficiary countries in their efforts to spur innovation as a central driver of the increasingly urgent transition from a low productivity and resource-intensive model of economic development to knowledge-based and more sustainable economic growth, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.


Responsibilities:

Within limits of delegated authority and depending on location, Team Assistants at this level may be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides general office support services to help ensure the smooth functioning of an organizational unit.
  • Uses standard word processing package to produce a variety of routine correspondence, reports, tables, charts, graphs, etc., in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Proofreads written products for completeness and grammatical and typographical accuracy.
  • Maintains calendar/schedules; monitors changes and communicates relevant information to appropriate staff inside and outside the immediate work unit.
  • Reviews, records, routes and/or processes mail or other documents; gathers pertinent background material; tracks and monitors followup action as required.
  • Receives phone call and visitors, and responds to routine inquiries and information requests, including drafting routine written responses, or routes to appropriate personnel for handling as required.
  • Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for work unit.
  • Updates and maintains large distribution lists; assemble documents, reports and other materials for global dissemination, where possible using electronic formats; coordinates courier services.
  • Performs basic data entry and extraction functions.
  • Checks accuracy of simple calculations, codings, data, etc.
  • Photocopies a variety of documents and other materials.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of office equipment in the performance of basic office functions, e.g. photocopier, facsimile, printer, scanner, etc.
  • Delivers urgent mail/messages.
  • Supports informal translations to and from Russian into English, supports editing documents and publications in Russian, assists in preparing Russian language correspondence and other communications.
  • Supports the organization of and participates in IPDS missions abroad.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.

Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away.

Work Experience

Experience in general office support or related area is desirable.

Experience in an international organization is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Russian is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
