    Your responsibilities

    Are you interested in developing your metadata management skills?

    The takes care of CERN scientific publications on the CERN Document Server. The latter is our institutional repository and will be progressively replaced by a new version. Therefore, metadata and files need to be migrated from the current to the new system. This position gives the opportunity to gain experience in dealing with metadata. The selected candidate will work in the Archives & Library Section. Join a diverse and dynamic team of dedicated librarians and contribute to our collaborative environment.

    The main tasks are:

  • Participating in defining the new JSON schema by analysing collections and the current metadata schema in MARC21 to map them to the new JSON schema.
  • Preparing metadata for migration and following-up of the process for the selected collections to be migrated with our IT team.
  • Checking results, ensuring metadata, files and collections are complete. - Analysing current scientific publication workflows and cataloguing workflows in order to provide specifications and requirements to the IT team on how they can be implemented in the new system.
  • Analysing the possible migration of metadata of CERN Archives content from the CERN Document Server into a new archival system and providing specifications and recommendations for related workflows.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders of the migration process (users, cataloguers and IT)
  • Writing procedures and documentation related to the metadata migration.
  • The successful applicant will also participate in other activities of the Archives & Library section:

  • Taking part in Library desk shifts to help researchers in their use of the Library services.
  • Fulfilling other tasks related to the Library & Archives work according to the needs and the ongoing activities.
  • Training will be provided for this position.

  • Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a .
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Library & Information Science (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree .
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
  • Additional Information

    Job closing date: 9 July :59 CEST.

    Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

    Target start date: 01-October-2024
