Introduction:

UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges.

As an employer, UNIL encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.

Presentation:

The Institue of Earth Surface Dynamics (IDYST) of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment of the University of Lausanne opens a
post-doctoral position in numerical modelling of thermochronometric data.

This position is part of the 5-year European Research Council funded project _ICED - Impact of Climate on Mountain Denudation_.

Thermochronometric data can be used to understand changes in rock exhumation and therefore erosion rates.

Trapped-charge thermochronometry, based on the luminescence and electron spin resonance of quartz and feldspar minerals, is a recently developed technique that can resolve changes in exhumation rates over the final few km of Earth's crust throughout the past 2 Myr.

However, trapped-charge techniques are limited by signal saturation, which means that they are not applicable in all environmental settings.

This project will exploit the recent implementation of trapped-charge systems in the thermokinematic model Pecube, to predict where trapped-charge thermochronometry can be applied.

Pecube will also be used to invert new trapped-charge data to understand landscape evolution.
