Collège du Léman is one of Switzerland's most prestigious international day and boarding schools, located on the edge of Lake Geneva in view of the Swiss Alps.

They come together on a green, village-like campus covering 8 hectares. Students follow international and national curricula, with English, French and Bilingual programmes.


Main purpose of the role


Encouraging and supporting students to enjoy and make the most of the learning opportunities offered by the school and, specifically, to teach English language and literature courses to High School students.

The role includes the possibility of teaching IGCSE and IB English classes, English language acquisition-level courses to students whose first language is not English and of becoming a homeroom advisor.


Key responsibilities

The English teacher will:

  • Promote the school's mission and vision by assisting students to discover and develop individual strengths, make powerful, lifelong global connections, and be their best selves.
  • Contribute to the creation of a caring and inclusive learning environment in which students can flourish, ensuring that each student's health and wellbeing are given the necessary priority.
  • Use and develop the existing resources to teach all or some of the following: High School, IGCSE, and IB English classes and EAL classes.
  • Supervise Extended Essays within the IBDP programme, if required.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualification required

  • Relevant university degree and teaching qualification.
  • EAL teaching qualification.
  • Masters deegree in a suitable area of pedagogy preferred.

Experience required

  • Teaching English Language and Literature in a High School setting to students whose first language might not be English.
  • Teaching EAL students.
  • Meeting the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences in the classroom.

Experience preferred

  • Teaching IGCSE Second Language English.
  • Teaching IB Language B.
  • Teaching IELTS
  • Working as a homeroom advisor.
  • Teaching in an international school setting.

Prior Skills and Knowledge

  • English mother tongue.
  • Ability to use and integrate Educational Technology as a tool to enhance learning in the curriculum.
  • Good rapport with students; firm but empathetic and fair.
  • Good organisational skills; evidenced by meeting the requirements of external examination boards.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of French is preferred

Additional Skills

  • Working as part of a team.
  • Working to tight deadlines.
  • A firm understanding and base of experience with AfL (Assessment for Learning).
  • Effective classroom management strategies.
  • Effective differentiation strategies.
  • It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships. You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form. Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process._
