Reporting to the AstraZeneca Head of Global Policy, the Senior Director of Global Policy for Rare Disease is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role as a strategic partner to Senior Rare Disease Business Leaders and the rare disease community - working directly to shape and promote a policy environment which enables timely access for rare disease patients to high-quality care and innovative therapies.

The Senior Director of Global Policy for Rare Disease, will be responsible for developing and implementing policy strategy, initiatives and engagements across global markets (ex-US) supporting global, regional, and country priorities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop policy strategies and tactics to ensure timely diagnosis, highquality care delivery and access to innovative medicines for rare disease patients across key markets globally; and ensure alignment and cooperation with other relevant parts of the organization.
  • Being coaccountable with markets to deliver policy change, develop highimpact stakeholder partnerships to identify opportunities to improve rare disease policies, understand their valueproposition, and meaningfully engage relevant decision makers.
  • Drive above market policy initiatives where appropriate.
  • Monitor the global policy environment and provide insights on the effects of those policies in the international developed markets; ensure knowledge of US policy environment and effects on international markets, if any. Optimize portfolio access and mitigate risk in response to the evolving global policy environment.
  • Serve as strategic policy counsel to Global and Regional Rare Disease Business Unit Leadership as well as crossfunctional partners.
  • Collaborate across functions, global/region/local levels to advance rare disease policy shaping priorities.
  • Deliver policy briefings on rare disease to Rare Disease Business Unit senior leaders upon request.
  • Identify strategic external opportunities with trade associations, societies, think tanks, and other key influencers in support of key policy objectives.
  • Serve as the rare disease policy expert representative on designated trade association workgroups.

Education, Behavioral Competencies and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required. JD or MBA desirable
  • Minimum 7 years of pharmaceutical experience in a healthcare policy, healthcare policy consulting, law, or financial/actuarial firm experience
  • Minimum 7 years of working on rare diseases with a variety of stakeholders, with demonstrated ability to drive impact through collaboration and partnership
  • Ability to work in a deadlinedriven and fastpaced environment including managing multiple projects with on time and budget completion
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving and business skills; with the ability to research complex policy issues with the ability to perform qualitative and lead quantitative analyses.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to process complex information and summarize it concisely in writing and/or verbally in a professional manner and in a time sensitive environment as required
  • Demonstrated success in a matrixed environment with particular emphasis on working across a Corporate Affairs organization
  • A history of strategic and tactical plan implementation that have netted results.
