OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Building on WHO's leadership in comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights the incumbent will:

Provides technical leadership, coordination, and managerial support within the Department, in the Unit on Sexual Health and Well-being Across the Life Course (SLC), providing leadership and ensuring that activities in this area are conducted efficiently and effectively.


  • Provides vision, sets priorities, develops, leads, and implements research in sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course.

Develops and proposes technical health policies and strategies for implementation through collaboration with Regional and Country Offices and HRP cosponsors.

Provides expert advice on sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course for strengthening and improving technical capacity of target clientele.

Oversees a unit of scientific and technical staff and manages financial resources, and effective work planning to optimize the programme's deliverables in line with the mandate of the Organization.

Manages the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the area of work including key performance indicators, mechanisms to optimize performance of programme deliverables.

Serve as the expert technical reference among the peer community, HRP Cosponsors, UN Agencies, and other stakeholders at the technical levels in sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course.

Liaise with and utilizes partnerships in other UN Agencies, HRP cosponsors, donors, and research institutions in contraception and fertility care to position the technical area of work and implementation into global and/or national policies.

Represent WHO and HRP at various meetings to advocate for evidence-based contraception and fertility care.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:


Essential:

Advanced university degree in public health, epidemiology, or another field related to sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course.


Desirable:

Ph.
D. in a field related to sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course.


Experience:


Essential:


At least 10 years of experience in research and research management relating to sexual and reproductive health, including experience at the international level.


  • At least 5 years of direct experience of leading research projects.

Desirable:


  • Working experience in a UN agency or an international nongovernmental organization in low
- and middle-income countries.


Skills:


  • Expert knowledge of sexual health, sexuality, and sexual wellbeing across the life course and its public health aspects.
  • Concrete skills in the planning and coordination of multidisciplinary public health programmes, which may include the implementation of a public health/disease control programmes.
  • Excellent skills and ability in managing diverse teams and financial resources.
  • Fundraising knowledge and skills, as evidenced by previous success in mobilizing resources.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively and diplomatically with partners including Ministries of Health, donor institutions, Civil Society, HRP cosponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven research, analytical and scientific writing skills, as evidenced by an extensive track record of peerreview scientific publication in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights (within the past 5 years).
